Here are some of the recent updates that you should know:
DELAYED IMPLEMENTATION OF GRAINS OUNCE EQUIVALENTSThis action delays, from Oct. 1, 2019 until Oct. 1, 2021, the implementation date of the “ounce equivalents” requirement for crediting grains served in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The final rule, Child and Adult Care Food Program: Meal Pattern Revisions Related to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, published on April 25, 2016, specified that meal planners must use ounce equivalents to determine the amount of creditable grain served as part of a reimbursable meal or snack.
How to Celebrate Local Foods
- Conduct taste tests with apple (or other produce) varieties
- Host a cooking contest, class, or demo for apple recipes
- Set up an apple themed photo booth for the Crunch event
- Read apple themed books (see suggested reading list at the end of this guide)
- Ask students to describe verbally or in writing how an apple looks, feels, tastes, and smells
- Ask students to write a story about an apple or reflect on the field trip to an orchard/farm
- Ask students to count the seeds in an apple
- Ask students to weigh and measure the circumference of an apple
- Discuss the needs of an apple, how it grows, and photosynthesis
- Put apple slices into cups with different liquids (water, soda, vinegar) and ask students to hypothesize what will happen in each experiment. Observe for a week and reflect on each hypothesis.

How does it work?
All paperwork is completed daily by hand or online, which makes up your monthly claim. All claims are to be mailed or emailed into the office on the first working day of the month to be processed. Your reimbursement check will be mailed on the last day of the month, unless the 1st is on Sunday, providing the funds are available from the state. It is that simple.
